Introduction

This is a blog in scrapbook form, with snapshots of physical geography basics. This blog is part of my learning process for the Physical Geography class at The King’s University College in Edmonton, Canada. The intention for this blog is mostly academic, and a little bit personal. If you’re a stranger and attracted to this information: welcome. My information comes from class lectures and the book Physical geography : the global environment, by H.J. de Blij and four other authors, published by Oxford University Press in 2009.

I live in a beautiful world. Every morning the sun comes up. After every outbreath, there is another in-breath available for me, again and again. These are things we all have learned to trust. We understand the principles behind it; we have faith in the scientific explanation. Though ultimately, science often does not give me a final satisfactory answer. Religion and spirituality give a more meaningful answer to life's questions. But which one of the two is right? The two don't always agree.

I think that in everything in the universe is that which is wanted and the lack thereof. It is our choice what we focus upon. Science can provide both enlightenment and conflict, and so can religion. It is our choice to focus on that which is in conflict or that which is in harmony. So who has the ultimate say? I think science and religion are one and the same; a marriage where the partners are slowly getting to know each other, working out conflicts, making amendments, and marrying their ideas. Perhaps someday we might look back and wonder why we had so much division on this topic.

I like to focus on what is wanted, on that which is in harmony, on that which is abundant in this world. I see beauty in science, as it explains in detail how everything works. I feel the planet, moving with life, creating and ever expanding. This to me is my spiritual experience; I see a glimpse of God. This is my journey through the field of Physical Geography.
